By “notable graves” we mean not only graves of poets and novelists and other traditionally “literary” authors, but also of philosophers, painters, scientists, and other prominent authors and thinkers and artists who influenced eighteenth- and nineteenth-century British and American literature–as well as friends, family members, and patrons that figured prominently into the lives and works of literary authors.
Below is an alphabetical listing of Notable Graves, thus understood.  Although these pages contain images of individual gravesites, where possible the name of the graveyard listed on each page is hyperlinked to a page that contains additional images of that graveyard.
The below list is very incomplete, and we are still missing many important literary figures. To see a list of graves we would especially like to add to this page, visit our two literary graves wishlists: Alphabetical and Geographical.  Should you have images to contribute to these pages, please email them to us at gravestoneproject@gmail.com.
